An evening of English eccentricity with a Birmingham Balti
beforehand. Well worth travelling from North Derbyshire for. I have always found JCC fascinating, I care for this man and
I was pleased to see he has put a little weight on from when
I last saw him in Derby about two years ago although he has
changed little in appearance since the early eighties. As he
said himself "when I go back to Salford they say eh johnnie
get back on drugs you fat bastard" He has however gained
some confidence over the years and now tells more jokes and
gags than poems, and banters well with the audience.
A lot of the time John laughed and chortled to himself which I've never seen him do before, a sign perhaps that he is more relaxed on stage these days He even lifted his glasses for a couple of seconds and the publicity poster for this gig was of a shades-less JCC.
Many of his jokes I've heard before but nevertheless his delivery and peculiar Salford accent never fail to amuse. We were treated to his classics: Twat, Chickentown, I Wrote the Songs, Martin Newell, Beasley St., Monster from Outer Space, and Hire Car plus others. Some of them he can now do without the aid of his marvelette notepad. Brilliant!
