Post War Glamour Girl - John Cooper Clarke. CBS 6541
This single's head peeps timidly over the pit-edges, but it's only partially successful, and John Cooper Clarke's potential is still far from realised. His belated first effort since signing to CBS, it runs up against the same problem as his Rabid single 'Psycle Sluts' -- it's pleasant enough but the words are too diffuse and wash over you without much impact, an effect accentuated by the bubbling MOR disco backing. He can be much sharper, as the B-side's poem -- 'Kung Fu International,' recorded live at Eric's -- suggests. But he's on his home ground theme of acute comic send-up of pop culture, and if he wants to extend his range into more serious areas, he's still got a (mainly musical) puzzle to solve. I hope he wins out.

Thanks to rabid JCC fan Matt in NY for keeping it all these years and sending it to me.
