As part of my own 'Citizen's Inquiry', here's the letter I hand delivered to the: am-pm, Jack in the Box, MacDonald's, Burger King, & Del Taco fast food convenience outlets in town:
From: steve@cyberspike.com

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to you as the manager/owner of (name inserted here) in 29 Palms for the following reasons:
#1: I am concerned about the trash problem here getting worse. Obviously I certainly don’t blame you for it all, but since ‘your chain’ of take-out / drive-through-window food is responsible for some of it, your response is important.
#2: If you visit the web page http://www.cyberspike.com/oasis/4th.html you will see examples of this trash I have posted to the web site and indicated where they end up.
#3: I would like to know your thoughts on how it ends up here and what you would like to see done to solve the problem.
#4: I would also like to know why you think people should be allowed to buy food at a drive-through window and eat and drink hot coffee while they are driving, but they are not allowed to answer or make a call on their cell phone because of the distraction it potentially causes? And, do you see a difference between the two?
#5: Do you think drive-through windows should be closed altogether in areas like 29 Palms where there is no City budget or manpower available to pick up wind-blown trash originated by these windows?
#6: If you have any additional comments you would like to make, please feel free to offer them.

I can't stress enough the importance of solving our trash problem because it's only getting worse, and unless something is done, the road we are heading down is a pretty disgusting one. I would like to post your response to this letter on the web site so I am not accused of only showing one side, and a fair balance is presented.

You will also always find the current issue of the web site at: http://www.cyberspike.com/oasis

Please can you e-mail your response to the above address.

Thanks

Steve Greeno
