Sorry - messed up. To continue: Carol Grant (now Stammers) and I were vice head girls and I believe John Lee was head boy. Carol, Vivienne and Christine Cheeseman (now Hayman and living in Canada) have continued to keep in touch. Some names I recall are: John Lightfoot, Keith Wiggins, Peter Kirk, Michael Koblitz, Eddie Clark, Mavis Burles, Elizabeth Ainge, Christine Childs (now Croucher), Sandra Hawes.... Some of the teachers I remember were Mr Larwood of course who sadly went deaf before he died, Miss James the deputy head, Peter Green who, despite his personal problems was a terific history teacher and a superb actor. I was lucky enough to take part in some of the amateur dramatic productions he organised and have a lot to thank him for. Sadly, he too died some time ago. I also remember Miss Jenkins (and the impression she made on the boys), Miss Nino in Arts & Craft, Miss Chisholm - she gave some of us quite a surprise by appearing naked in the girls dormitory on our first Youth Hostelling trip... Mr Lipman, yes, Crater Head. I hated his habit of addressing the girls by their surnames; Mr Chapman, Mr Smith - how he must have despaired trying to teach me maths; Miss Margaret Murray, a superb English teacher whom I admired greatly and have to thank for my abiding love of literature. Whatever some of you may have thought of the teachers there in the early 60's, I believe we were lucky. Although one of my daughters has a 1st class degree and the other is currently at university, the English department in their grammar school was nowhere near as good. I met Eric Brown (why was he called Bomber?) about 8 years ago. He was, and may still be deeply involved with junior badminton in Essex. Anyway, happy new year to anyone reading this and finally, thanks to the person responsible for setting up the site!

Have just discovered this site and was amazed to recognise so many names. I left O.C. in January 1967 after doing just one term in the first 6th form. At that time, Vivienne Nicholls (now Wren) was head girl and CaR

I would like to hear from anyone who remembers me. I am also anxious to find out what happened to the large sports photos that used to hang outside Mr. Larwood's office. They included my late brother Dave who represented the school in many sports. If anyone can help with this I would be extremely grateful as the family do not have any surviving sporting photos of Dave.

Barry Taylor here. 60-64. I am so glad someone took the initiative. Well done Mate for setting the site up. I particularly love the report extracts, I am going to add to that and get some shit off my chest here! I would love to hear from Chris Hindson and Mickey Crawley, I often wonder where thay are now. I have heard from lots of old mates on here and from Dilkes so please drop me a mail if you remember me, I am on here daily and wil reply. My greatest memory from Courts was when Mr Green told me that I had wasted his time and that I would end up in prison...Who's the sad one now you perv! You didnt think it would be you in there though did you, how the worm turns! AND Mr Davies or Mr Owen, I hope that the two of you have had similar bad luck to Green for the times you humiliated me Jack Tregunno and Terry Watley in front of the school. You guys were the worst teachers I have ever met and pathetic bullies. YOU WASTED MY TIME! Sorry to hear of the deaths of Bert Angier and Bernie Sumner great blokes But on a happy note, I have to say my days at courts were he happiest of my life (excluding my kids of course) Love to hear from anyone.

Val Ryall @ courts from 1958 - 1963 I would like to add my name to the list of girls and try and contact anyone who is still alive and remembers me. I used to live in Neathan Drive Aveley, have a brother and a sister who also attended Ockendon Courts. Michael Ryall and Marilyn Ryall. Teachers I remember were Larwood of course, Zena Jenkins, the sex symbol to all the boys at the time.Miss Kiddle the music teacher. Mr Green the history teacher. Mr Welfar English I think, Miss Bunkin who everyone referred to as the witch because of the boiling of glue and nettles in little couldrons in her art & crafts room. Mr Lipman English teacher Mr Williams art teacher, and Miss Murray English. I was in the x2 stream from the 3rd year on and hope that someone reading this will remember me. I was pretty distinctive and very sensative about being 5'10 and very thin, at a time when it was ideal to have a figure like marilyn munro ttfn Val Ryall

Think I'm a couple of years ahead of the list. Left after GCE's in 1966. Can still remember most the names of the kids in my class 4A and a bunch of the teachers. Steve Mendham's brother "Munch" was a friend, and I recognise some of the other surnames so they are probably younger siblings of people I know. Hope this site picks up steam in the coming years.

Jeezuz... It took so long waiting for a Courts site to appear I figured I'd better start one. I have no idea where anyone is, so this space is dedicated to those unique Ockendon School kids (and teachers), who happened to occupy that one brief moment of time and space together in the mid-to-late sixties.

If anyone actually remembers me, feel free to e-mail me... I hope everyone's doing ok and all that...

Lastly, if Phil Davis is reading this, I'd love my copy of 'In The name of...' autographed. Hey, who can possibly forget Oliver?
